Clearly, that is a Marine standing there on the right hand side.  I don’t understand why every branch of the Military is singled out to be a Soldier. I understand when Civilians think of “Military” they think “Army-Navy”, yeah, I get it.. But there are more branches… including Marines, Airmen, Sailors, and whatever else the Armed Forces go by.. I just think that those who make signs like this should make a general statement like “Our Troops Over Seas”, because quite frankly — Afghanistan is not the only place we have troops… Nor are Soldiers the only Men and Women fighting. 

Again, this is NOT a direct stab at anyone. Its a generalization for ANY one on Tumblr. k thanks  

Technically, a ‘Soldier’ is any member of a land component of national armed force. I know Marines don’t like being called soldiers, but the person who made this technically is not wrong.

Jesus, just seriously get over it. The person who made this is trying to prove a point-does there have to be a damn rule book on what people can or cannot write on a picture? Like Casey stated, the term soldier in this ad is used in general sense- “A soldier is a member of the land component of national armed forces” (Source: Wikepedia.com) If this were COMPARING the two (for whatever reason) of course you would use the title of ‘Marine’.  But I’m fairly certain this person just googled to find this picture.

I hate when I’m asked “You’re joining the Army?” Like No, its not the same.

Correct AP style is soldier.       Confine the use of “soldier” and “soldiers” to refer to people in the Army, not to service members in general. Note the last line. Now you can all stop crying about something this fucking stupid and focus back on things that matter…. Like how pathetic your life is.
